Time of Crisis

PROMPT: A struggle I overcame

MEDIUM: Pencil

ART DESCRIPTION:

"My mother just came back from the hospital. A check-up, to make sure everything is okay, and her ongoing physiotherapy is working. When I was asked to visualize and bring to life a time of crisis I have once experienced, the memory of having the thought of losing my mother came to mind.

She battled stage 2 breast cancer, going through surgery, chemo, and radiation over a span of one year. I never cried, I barely cried, I should say. Once when she told us she was diagnosed    , and another when I looked at her pillowcase.

Hair loss was sudden. Losing her hair was like all of your treasures burning away. It’s the hair I used to braid for fun, curl for fun, look at its beauty, it told a story. Then it was all gone. None of it felt really real before I saw her hair covered pillowcase. It was then when I knew cancer was going to take her away from me for a little while."
